MPA / Gower Street Analytics

Industry

Used for Global and international theatrical market totals on the Trends pages.

No free source publishes a scrapable global market total, so these are transcribed from published industry reports with a per-year citation: MPA Theatrical Market Statistics and THEME reports through 2021, Gower Street Analytics year-end estimates from 2022 (the MPA stopped publishing THEME publicly after 2021).

Public domain US government data, retrieved from the BLS public API. Inflation-adjusted views are labelled as CPI-adjusted, never as ticket-price adjusted.

SEC EDGAR and company filings

Financial

Used for Streaming subscription revenue by company on the Trends pages.

Netflix revenue comes from the SEC's XBRL API. Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount and Peacock segment revenue is transcribed from their 10-K and 8-K filings, each with the filing cited, because segment revenue is dimensional in XBRL and not exposed by the API.
